Trading is often associated with quick decisions, constant action and the search for the next big opportunity.
But for Indian trader @AlphaWizarDD, the biggest gains came from doing almost the opposite — building systems, back-testing them and having the discipline to follow them.
He began his market journey around 2018-19 with Rs 5 lakh. His first strategy involved following stock tips
and shorting them at the opening. “Made some money, brokerage ate most of it,” he recalled. He then entered the F&O segment, initially focusing on option buying. A YouTube video by @itjegan changed his approach,
taking him “from buyer to seller of options.” Option selling required more capital, so he borrowed Rs 10 lakh
from a friend. The strategy failed, but he repaid the loan and continued learning. The turning point came with
systematic back-testing on StockMock. He tested time-based short straddles and followed the rules strictly. He reported an 86% return in 2020 and 83% in 2021, besides winning Flattrade’s 60-day challenge with 17 consecutive wins.
But he says trading successfully is less about excitement and more about patience.
“Successful trading requires discipline and boredom,” he wrote. To avoid overtrading, he began reading about investing. Joel Greenblatt’s “The Little Book That Beats the Market” introduced him to systematic investing, eventually leading him to develop his own stock-selection framework. Today, he uses F&O profits to invest in equities through that system. He estimates his actual seven-year CAGR at nearly 48%, with a back-tested system return of around 50%. His philosophy is simple: “Learned almost everything from books, YouTube, webinars, articles — no shortcuts.”

Internet reacts

The post has gained widespread attention online.
One user wrote, “I am also on same path, heard investment and option trading at 2022 ,
have gone through 1000 of YouTubes , taken few courses , sessions. Started option buying but failed,
then stopped and started looking for other methods, heard about option selling and following same now.”

Another person said, “It seems to very much achievable with the experience you are having.”

A third individual added, “The Rs 10 lakh loan failure could’ve ended the journey.
Instead, he repaid it and kept learning. That’s the real story.”
